Kenneth Spicer - President & CEO

Kenneth Spicer is a former Associate Director of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Housing and Development and has held several executive positions in state government for 16 years before coming to CHD.

He holds a Master of Science degree in Public Affairs from the John W. McCormack Institute of the University of Massachusetts at Boston, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona Beach, Florida.  He also completed the Senior Executives of the Commonwealth program at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government, and the Harvard Business School Executive Education at the Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations.

As Chief Executive Officer, he is responsible for creating a new organizational vision for CHD and for effectively managing the day-to-day business affairs of the corporation.

Gerald Algere

Gerald (Jerry) is the Senior Vice President and Lending Officer of Century Bank and Trust Company located in Medford, MA.

Prior to the position above, he served as: Vice President of Compass Bank (New Bedford), Vice President for State Street Bank (Boston), Managing Director of Lending, as well as Senior Loan Officer for the MA Development Finance Agency (Boston), and Vice President - Boston Bank of Commerce (Boston) and Planning & Policy Specialist - Mayor's Office (New Orleans, LA)

Jerry serves or has served on the board of directors of: Youthbuild Boston; The St. Andrew School; MA Advocacy Council; Industrial Co-Operation Assoc.; Dudley Enterprise Program; D.A.R.E. Community Social Services, Jackie Robinson Foundation; and the Big Brothers Association of Boston.

He has a M.S. in Urban Planning for Renssealer Polytechnical Institute (Troy N.Y.) and a B.S. in Sociology for St. Lawrence University (Canton, N.Y.)

Kevin Barrett

Kevin is a member of CHD's Atlantic Clubhouse where he is also employed as a van driver. Kevin is an U.S. Army veteran (1978 - 1981). He attends Quincy College pursuing a degree in Education. He resides in Quincy.

Bernard Brookes

Bernard is the co-founder and chief executive officer of Basic Health Management International, Inc. (BHM), a health management consulting company and federal contractor.

Bernard was the former Executive Director and co-founder of the Center for Health and Development, Inc. from 1987-1994.  Prior to directing CHD and BHM, he served as Deputy Director of Operations at New Medico Associates, Inc., a national chain of rehabilitation and nursing care facilities (1986-1987).

He also served as the Director of Clinical Services, Hospital Management Division, for the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health (1985-1986), and as the Unit Clinical Director at the Bridgewater State Hospital (1983-1985).

He received a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and a MBA from Boston University, and completed his Clinical Fellow in Psychology at Harvard Medical School / McLean Hospital where he also taught Psychology from 1993-1995.

He is a member of the American Psychological Association.  Bernard served as the President for CHD's board of directors from 2000-2001, and is currently a member Emeritus of the board.
