Forensic Mental Health

CHD has been providing forensic mental health evaluations since 1987 and currently provides this service in the Central Massachusetts area to the thirteen District and Superior Courts in central Massachusetts.

Forensic evaluations assess various issues, including competency to stand trial, criminal responsibility, likelihood of serious harm by reason of mental illness or substance abuse, and treatment planning in the community.

Our psychologists and social workers contribute objective clinical information and expert opinions to assist the courts to make informed decisions regarding adults with mental illness, serious behavioral or emotional disorders, and substance abuse.

These individuals and their families are often in crisis with a feeling of helplessness. Substantive clinical assessment and recommendations may help the court to point their lives in a positive rehabilitative direction.
