Mercurio Center

The Mecurio Senior Social Center is a social recreational program for consumers over 55 years of age, diagnosed with a persistent mental illness.

Many seniors enjoy the option of social recreational activities during the day, however, until the Mercurio Center opened in 1999, there was no such program for senior citizens diagnosed with a mental illness.

This center services adults who no longer wish to work competitively. Today we are well aware of the benefits of social interaction. People do much better when they are with others rather than isolating at home.

These very same issues which impact elders in almost every family. The issues and concerns are magnified when that senior has a mental illness. It is difficult for the elderly programs to work with people who have a mental illness and it is difficult for the seniors to be in a program that does not understand their symptoms or their illness.

The Mecurio Center offers seniors a structured social rehabilitative choice.

The Mecurio Center is located approximately a ½ mile south on Washington Street, just outside of Quincy Center. The program is T accessible by using the red line to Quincy Center and then taking either the 220 or 222 bus.
